What are vector files?
The word vector is a broad concept, it has affinity with mathematics, biology, aerospace, and machines. Vector in our sense has nothing to do with that, vector is a graphic representation built from simple geometric objects, such as points, lines, curves, and polygons. Because of this, vector files can be enlarged to any desired format without losing quality. This is in contrast to pixel files or raster images. With a pixel image or raster image, the resolution is fixed for the chosen scale, so when enlarging the image, a blurry or blocky result occurs.
How do I recognize vector files?
In general, you can recognize vector files by the file type: EPS, PDF, SVG, or AI. However, there are exceptions. A pixel file can be saved in these file types. This doesn't make it a vector file. Only by opening the file and enlarging it can you see whether it's a vector file or pixel file. You can recognize a pixel file by the file type: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, or BMP.
