Why sign makers need a vector file

Signage is produced by cutting vinyl with a cutting plotter or printing on special vinyl film. Both techniques require a vector file as the source. The cutting plotter follows the vector lines to cut your logo from vinyl, while printed signage relies on the vector file for a sharp reproduction at any size. Without a vector file, the sign maker cannot get started.

Benefits of a vector logo for signage

Suitable for cutting plotters

Our vector file contains clean cut paths that any cutting plotter can follow without issues. Your logo is flawlessly cut from vinyl.

Scalable to any size

Whether your logo needs to go on a business card or a truck: the vector file is infinitely scalable without quality loss.

Crisp lines and shapes

Vector files consist of mathematical curves, resulting in perfectly smooth lines and shapes. Ideal for the clean look that signage requires.

Signage applications

Vehicle lettering

Your company vehicle is a mobile billboard. With a vector logo, the lettering on your car, van or truck is always sharp and professional.

Window lettering

Lettering on windows and shop fronts attracts attention. A vector file ensures a crisp cut or print, even on large glass surfaces.

Facade signage

Your business premises deserve a professional appearance. With a vector logo, your facade signage or illuminated sign is always sharp and legible.

Interior signage

From wall text to wayfinding: signage in your business premises is always executed cleanly and consistently with a vector logo.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't my sign maker work with a JPG?

A cutting plotter needs vector lines to cut the vinyl. A JPG consists of pixels and contains no cut paths. By vectorizing your logo, the sign maker receives a file with the correct cutting contours.

What format does my sign maker need?

Most sign makers work with EPS, AI or SVG. We deliver your logo in all these formats as standard, so you can always supply the right file.

Can a logo with gradients be cut from vinyl?

Cut vinyl letters are always in one colour per layer. Colour gradients are only possible with printed signage. We will advise you on this when vectorizing your logo.
