Why create an EPS file?

An EPS file is essential for professional printing and advertising. The big advantage is that EPS is a vector file that can be scaled infinitely without quality loss. Perfect for banners, vehicle lettering, and large format printing.

Universal

Works on Windows and Mac, compatible with all graphics software

Scalable

Infinitely enlargeable without quality loss

Professional

The standard for printers and sign companies

Methods to create an EPS file

There are several ways to create an EPS file. However, not all methods deliver the same results.

1

Change the extension

Some think you can simply change the extension from .jpg to .eps. Unfortunately, this doesn't work - the file remains a pixel file, only the name changes.

Doesn't work - file remains pixels
2

Online converters

There are websites that automatically convert files. This is an automated process without human control, so results often disappoint with rough edges and errors.

Moderate quality - no final check
3

Vectorize yourself

With professional software like Adobe Illustrator, you can trace your logo yourself. However, this requires an expensive subscription, lots of experience, and takes a lot of time.

Time-consuming - steep learning curve

Why doesn't changing the extension work?

The extension of a file (like .jpg or .eps) is just a label indicating what type of file it is. Changing the extension doesn't change the content of the file. A pixel image remains a pixel image, even if you give it an .eps extension.

Note

Open the file and zoom in to check if it's really a vector file. With a pixel file, you'll see blocks; with a real vector file, everything stays sharp.
